Once again, the U.S. ranked first in number of people suffering obesity and excess weight affects one out of every third American. In Russia this figure is almost two times less. This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by the Organization for economic cooperation and development, writes Vademecum.
According to the analysis statistics for the year 2015, the number of citizens older than 15 years who are obese are the United States (38.2 percent), Mexico (32.4 per cent) and New Zealand (30.7 percent). According to the forecasts of researchers, by 2030, the United States and Mexico, the figure may reach 46% and 39%, respectively.
In Russia are obese or 19.6% of the population older than 15 years. Among women, the prevalence of this disease is about 24%, and for men about 15%. The study also provides data on levels of obesity among children under 15 years of age. In 2001-2002, in Russia were obese about 5% of children, and in 2013-2014 – are already 16%.
The least residents with obesity was in Japan (3.7 percent), Korea (5.3 percent) and Italy (9.8 per cent).
According to the McKinsey Global Institute, the economic toll of obesity in the world is about $2 trillion.
In 2014, Russia has entered into the twenty of the most obese countries in the world, sharing 19th place with the UK with 24.9% of the population are obese. First place in the world ranking was on Mexico, which annually spends on the fight against obesity 10 billion euros, the second – the United States, the third Syria.
At the same time Russia, according to freelance specialist of the Ministry of health on preventive medicine Sergey Boytsov has already overtaken the United States in obesity rates. In the country, according fsbi “Endocrinological research center”, this disease affects 18.4% of men (29 million people).
